DISCOVER MARBELLA

IMG_0092 IMG_0040 IMG_0055 IMG_0091 IMG_0049 IMG_0033 IMG_0052MARBELLA became known as the «jet set» resort in the 1960,s after the Marbella Club(now the Marbella Club Hotel)was formed in the 1950,s, & the opening of the yachting marina of Puerto Banus in the 1970,s – now the «Monte Carlo» of Spain.

It can easily happen that, one can enjoy the beaches, good weather, designer shops, first class restaurants, exciting night life, & be totally oblivious to the old town (Casco Antiguo)- in fact, not even realize it exists.

The Roman settlement here was called «Salduba» & the Arabs called it Marbil-la in the middle ages. In fact the Moorish defense walls can still be seen surrounding the old section of the city.

In 1485 the Catholic monarchs gave Marbella the title of city & capital of the region & made it a Royal Protectorate. At this time the famous «Plaza de los Naranjos» or «Orange Square» was built along the lines of Castillian urban design. Now a very popular place to enjoy the outdoor cafe,s & retaurants ,& watch the world go by.

Beyond the square are narrow streets lined with pot plants, 15C churches, patios, cafes , restaurants , «Tapas»bars & even museums, hidden around every corner.

Do’nt leave this until the end of your stay – there’s too much to discover.

Join me for a discovery walking tour-see the Dali sculptures, the small port, & the old town whilst calling in to sample drinks & tapas as we stroll along.

TAPA’S DISCOVERY TOUR – Normally takes place on Monday evenings 6pm – but other times or days are possible.   Telf . 639984071  to reserve.
